Traveling to Belitung for the first time and you are confused whether to take a tour or not? Hmmm that was what I experienced on planning our trip to Belitung. There are many Belitung tours available on the internet. I called one of them asking whether I had to pay for our kiddos. I got the answered that they will email me the details, but I have never received the email.
So I pushed the "call a friend" button, asking my friends who have been to Belitung regarding driver and hotel recommendation. @hellorico, @alencantiek and @diniros were my source of information, and I am blessed to get useful information from them. Thank you guys!
A 3D2N tour with a room at Bahamas hotel cost IDR 1,750,000 per person, while staying at Lor In will cost you more around IDR 1,900,000 per person. I cut the price by organise our private tour, and I am sharing the tips with you.
1. Hotels in Belitung
There are four top hotels in Belitung in my opinion which are: Biliton, Grand Hatika, Bahamas and Lor In. We stayed at Lor In and Bahamas with a room rate of IDR 720,000 and IDR 520,000 respectively. I choose Bahamas because it was the cheapest of the above mentioned hotels, whilst for Lor In we stayed there because of the beautiful beach in front of it.

2. Car Rental in Belitung
We have asked Bahamas hotel the price of their van for an airport pick up from Tanjung Pandan airport and also a full day rental price. The airport pick up (or transfer) cost IDR 100,000 per room, they also provide a package of boat hire for the island hopping activity.
From our friend @helloricco, we got a phone number of car rental including the driver cost IDR 350,000 per day. The driver Nopri was excellent, he accompanied us everywhere. On the day we did the island hopping, he even snorkel to take care of our kiddos. If you need a car rental in Belitung, I recommend Pak Wiku 081328655484.

3. Boat Hire in Belitung
Pak Wiku and Nopri managed the boat hire for us. It cost IDR 400,000 for up to 10 person, and we even ordered lunch from Pak Wiku. There were no restaurants on the island, so it is recommended to bring your own lunch. Our lunch cost IDR 60,000 per adult, no charge for the kiddos. We got grilled fish, grilled shrimp and grilled squid with rice and tumis kangkung (water spinach).

4. Island Hopping in Belitung
This is of course the #1 thing to do in Belitung. We started our island hopping from Tanjung Kelayang beach, located not so far from Lor In Hotel.

First stop was the Pulau Burung (bird island) which is famous for its stone with a bird shape. This was the best island of the three island we visited that day to have a nice swimming session.

Afterwards, we went to Pulau Lengkuas, which is famous for its lighthouse. Lengkuas is a more crowded island, it is the most famous island in Belitung. The lighthouse has 17 floors, you should go up to the lighthouse! The effort of going up the lighthouse worth the breathtaking view from the top of it.

After our lunch break, we continued our journey to have our snorkeling session, 5 minutes away from Pulau Lengkuas by boat. By the way the snorkel gear and life vest should be ordered before leaving Tanjung Kelayang. Each cost IDR 20,000 for a whole day rental. Well, it's weird that the boat hire did not include the live vest.

The last stop was the Pulau Pasir (sand island) before going back to Tanjung Kelayang. We stopped at Pulau Pasir to take picture with the starfish.
5. Budget Recap
For two adults and two children:
- Hotel: Rp 1,040,000 (assuming staying two nights in Bahamas Hotel)
- Boat hire and lunch: IDR 520,000
- Car rental for two days IDR 700,000
- Airport transfer from the hotel: IDR 100,000
So you could compare our budget for four person with the budget offered by the tour. And based on our experience, it was not difficult at all to manage our own tour in Belitung.
